Data Sources

Where the food data in Helthy comes from, and what you can do with it.

Open Food Facts

Helthy's food database includes data from Open Food Facts, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Its individual contents are under the Database Contents License.

In the app these products are marked Community, with a link to the product on Open Food Facts. We show them as we received them and never mix them with other sources. When a product is wrong there, you can fix it on Open Food Facts for everyone.

We do not show Open Food Facts product photos.

Download the Open Food Facts data we hold

As the licence asks, the Open Food Facts products we hold are available here under the same licence, with a description of everything we compute from them, including the rules for "likely contains" allergens.

open-food-facts-layer.jsonl.gz: the products, one per line

open-food-facts-layer.json: when it was made and how many products it holds

USDA FoodData Central

Many foods come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central, which is in the public domain.
