What we change, and how (ODbL 4.6 b: the method of the alterations) We do not edit Open Food Facts values. What the app shows for one of these products is computed from the product above: - energy in kcal; when a product states only kJ, kcal = kJ / 4.184; - sodium and cholesterol converted from grams to milligrams; - values rounded: kcal to whole numbers, grams to one decimal; - the per 100 g panel; when a product has none, the per serving panel scaled to 100 g when the serving is in grams; - drinks stated per 100 ml stay per 100 ml; a serving in ml is converted to grams with a density for the food's kind; - the serving as the product states it, and its own wording for it ("2 bars (42 g)"), checked against the package size; - micronutrients converted to one unit per nutrient; - declared allergens read from allergens_tags. We also derive "likely contains" allergens from the ingredient text, by rules, never mixed with the declared allergens: - the ingredient list is read in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese, after folding case, accents and ligatures; - an allergen counts when an ingredient names it or a common ingredient that contains it (wheat, barley, rye and oats for gluten; butter, whey and casein for milk; and so on for the 14 EU allergens); - precautionary statements ("may contain", "made in a facility", "traces of") and negations ("gluten-free", "dairy-free", "without eggs") are ignored; - look-alike words are ignored: peanut butter is not milk, coconut milk is not milk, cocoa butter, nutmeg, water chestnut and buckwheat are not the allergens their names suggest. Corrections We do not correct Open Food Facts data in our copy. Wrong data is best fixed on Open Food Facts itself; the app links to each product's page there.
